The Ubuntu Leadership Academy is a project to empower young people with leadership potential, from contexts of social exclusion or who intend to work in such contexts, developing or integrating social entrepreneurship and innovative projects at the service of the community.

The 5th edition benefits from the experience and learning gained from previous editions, the first in 2010/12, the 2nd in 2013/2014, the 3rd in 2015/2016 and the 4th in 2017. The 5th edition, now ongoing targets 50 young people, aged 18-35, from the entire continental territory of Portugal and whose names were put forward by local, regional or national institutions.

The Ubuntu Leadership Academy operates on a one-year training cycle, using non-formal education methodologies, delivered in 10 thematic weekend residential seminars.

The thematic seminars will address major world renowned personalities with Ubuntu vision, namely Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Desmond Tutu, Mahatma Gandhi, Aung San Suu Kyi, Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Aristides de Sousa Mendes. Topics such as leadership, communication, self-knowledge, negotiation / mediation, civic courage, among others, are addressed in these training sessions. Training tools used in these sessions vary from film viewing and discussion, workshops, field visits, addresses by special guests, life experiences and conference settings
